Einwandererzentralstelle (EWZ) Film Numbers
The release of the Einwandererzentralstelle (EWZ) microfilms has been a tremendous step forward in the research of the German colonies of Volhynia.
The National Archives films include records of refugees who arrived in Poland from the east during the Second World War. They were anxious to prove their German ancestry, and therefore their right to remain on German soil.
The paperwork that resulted includes a vast amount of information about the families, including birthdates and places, ancestry, places of residence, and the names of contacts in Germany.
There are three basic sets of films covering the refugees. Two are in alphabetical order, and one is numeric, following the numbers assigned when the paperwork was done by the German authorities.
The films are available through the U.S. National Archives and the Family History Centres.
